Philippines get shaken with magnitude earthquake

(MENAFN) A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the northern region of the Philippines early Tuesday, according to reports that referenced the country’s seismic agency.

The quake originated at a depth of 27 kilometers and was centered about 29 kilometers northwest of Pasuquin, a town in the Ilocos Norte province.

Authorities indicated that while aftershocks are expected following the tremor, they are not likely to result in major destruction.

Surrounding areas, including the provinces of Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, and Abra, also felt the quake.

The Philippines frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for intense seismic and volcanic activity.
